Mission:
Project: Frontier Day
Location: USS Eminence, Hangar Bay
Timeline: Prior to Athan Prime arrival
"You will be missed, Officer Ovik." The female named Illessann was one of the Vulcan's main assignments as an advisor at the colony, and there seemed to be a certain, unique smile on her face whenever she spoke to him.
"It will definitely be a transition," Ovik offered rather flatly. In true Vulcan fashion, he rarely showed - or even explored - his emotional side. Anger had been the one feeling he had engaged over the years in some of his more tense missions in Starfleet. "But it must happen - my skills are needed elsewhere."
Illessann, not on duty in the governor's mansion, had managed to find Ovik alone, packing up his belongings in his main office therein. She indeed had been trying to find him alone for weeks now, only to do so in his last hour.
"Will you write?" she asked, metaphorically insisting he send her video or holo messages.
Ovik chortled a bit, with a slight curl of his lip. "I will make every intention of sending word once I am settled." He did rather enjoy her company, but it was supposed to be for duty and work purposes. He would never let personal relationships to interfere or even parallel a professional responsibility such as this.
Illessann seemed to understand his thought process. Afterall, she had gotten to know him quite a bit as well. "You know, we could be... friends... if you would allow it. I mean, you are not my attache' anymore after today. It would be easy."
It would not be easy for myriad reasons, but Ovik did not want to explain them all. He made eye contact with her and managed a half-smile. "Perhaps in a different time and place..."
It was her time to chuckle. "Your sense of duty is one of my favorite things about you, Ovik." She reached out and put her hand on his shoulder - a mild touch to avoid pushing too hard on him. "As I said, you will be missed."
Ovik nodded and went back to packing, locking up a small case that was fully loaded already. "I will missed this place as well, Illessann." And he would, but there was also an air of excitement for what was next for the young Vulcan.
Two Days Later...
The warp sled was just a few moments out from arrival at the USS Eminence's space. Evidently the Eminence was to be "running errands" for Frontier Day and thus the boatswain was arriving just in time. It was an assignment he had done quite a bit of training in his enlisted and warrant officer specialty academies.
Ovik had been serving at a remote colony for the last year or so and felt a bit grounded after that time. Even though most of his career was in the stars and the colony position was only for a year, it still left him feeling a bit, well, grounded. It was hard to explain, especially to other Vulcans.
Alas, he was all but alone on this warp sled. There were some random supplies and a couple crewman being slipped out here before the Eminence left for the Athan system. It was intriguing to consider oneself a part of, essentially, a cargo transport. That said, his logistics brain lent itself to the situation.
"Sir," came the pilot's inquiry. Evidently Ovik was the ranking officer on the sled. "Commencing docking now."
Ovik nodded. "Roger," he said plainly, looking out the front of the shuttle as the Eminence's front shuttle bays came into view. It was an odd layout compared to most Starfleet vessels, but it worked quite well for those who embraced it and knew how to fly it. And even moreso to those who knew how to handle the logistics and mechanics of such a unique layout.
The shuttle finally landed safely and delivered its quarry. And in that moment, the Vulcan instantly felt back at home on a Starfleet vessel, sailing out in the stars once more.
