"A New Posting"

Timber Wolf strolled onto the bridge with Alaska on his heels. She was excited to be back on a new ship with her master. "Feels good to be back on a ship hey girl"? he said petting her head. Looking around he noticed the differences between the prometheus class with this one. Looking for what he realized was the captain's ready room, he walked over and hit the door chime and waited.

Captain Wells was in his quarters; he had been there for about two hours. Unlike most Captains, Wells preferred his quarters over the “ready room.” In his opinion, the ready room was overrated. He would conduct more business in his quarters than adjacent to the bridge.

He placed a desk, a master chair, and four others—room for visitors. Wells then sat at his desk drinking an ancient earth drink known as “Diet Pepsi.” Most people did not even know what that was these days, but he programed the recipe into the computer wherever he went. As he was going over the list of his personnel, a chime went off. Hitting a button, Wells responded:

“Yes,” asked Wells.

“Sir, pursuant to your orders, I was told to advise you that the Executive Officer has returned from his leave,” responded the voice from the speaker.”

“Very well, please let the XO know I am in my quarters and have him come down and see me,” said the captain.
“Aye, sir,” came the response.

After being told to go to the captain's quarters, he walked down the corridor to the quarters and hit the door chime. Alaska was sitting next to him patiently waiting to be admitted with Wolf.

"Come in" came the reply from the Captain.

As he entered he would notice that the Captain was wear jeans and a tee-shirt. On the shirt read, "I am the Captain."

"Kind of hard not to notice the shirt captain. Cmdr. Timber Wolf reporting in...and this is my working companion Alaska," he said as an introduction. "I felt it would be a good idea to bring her along to meet the new captain", Wolf said as Alaska lifted her paw in greeting.

The Captain smiled and replied, "I will not be your usual Captain. Commander, we have been cleared to get underway the day-after-tomorrow. I will be here most of the time getting ready to go. Please ensure that our staff is onboard by that time and we will leave at 0900 the morning of departure."

Not expecting what was said, Wolf simply replied, "Understood captain. I will make the preparations to get underway as stated," Wolf replied.

Looking up at the Commander he then said, "Unless there is anything else, commander, I will not keep you from your duties. Dismissed."

Looking at the commander's dog he added, "Welcome aboard pooch."

"Alaska....come," and both left the captain's quarter's.
