Quiet Hours

Posted on Fri Mar 21st, 2025 @ 8:44pm by Captain Alex Shepard

Mission: Project: Frontier Day
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: Current

Alex Shepard watched the stars fly by outside the ready room window. Normally she'd be sound asleep, but tonight was the exception, for no real reason except that once or twice out of the year she became an insomniac for no real reason. When this did happen, she usually kept herself busy.

Right now, she was getting ahead on the usual reports to command. Word of mouth was that the crew would receive new orders after they got to port in a few days, but it was usually uncertain. If she wanted to, she could have sat on the bridge but she refrained against it as to not interfere with the night shift. Not that they'd necessarily be against it, but it was their one time for a while to be alone, commanding a starship. She didn't want to take that away from them unless the situation called for it and right now it didn't

She pulled out another report from the pile. Another memorandum from Commodore La Forge protesting the use of the fleet automation. She didn't blame him. The Eminence was also one of the lucky few starships that still wasn't slated to be upgraded yet. She hoped to keep it that way. The fleet formation mode felt very collective-like. Too much like the Borg. The increased use of Borg technology on newer Starfleet vessels also added to this concern due to the fact that it could be exploited by the Borg.

These were late night thoughts though, and while they were real concerns the Captain was tired. So much so that once she leaned back in her chair she was fast asleep for once.
