Mission: Project: Frontier Day
Location: USS Eminence
Timeline: Current

ON:

[Starship History Museum, Athan System)

The bright glow of Athan Prime flooded the corridors of Spacedock One, which were a little busier than usual. Crewmembers of various different Starfleet Divisions were moving to and fro. Various projects were being worked on in preparation for Frontier Day 2401, which was still nearly a year away and most of the projects were far from being done. Mostly due in part to the fact that some parts and items needed were much more difficult to find, especially parts for non Federation vessels that hadn't been in commission for 150 years.

Commander Rex Tillas, who had been on temporary duty as the museums co-curator, was walking with haste through the corrior on deck forty to get to the turbolift to the command levels. He had a pile of reports and exhibit maintenance updates to give to Commodore La Forge. He was suddenly flagged down by Lieutenant Roland Briggs.

"Commander Tillas!" Briggs called out. "I have that requisition report for the Commodore."

"Ah Lieutenant" he said as he stopped short of the man as he accepted the PADD that Roland handed to him. "How did the requisitions go?" He asked as he glanced over the report.

"Mostly good sir..." the Lieutenant trailed off.

"Mostly?"

"Well Commander, there were a few things on there, that we couldn't get conventionally, that may require Commodore La Forge's approval to get by other means if there are any."

Rex sighed. "I see. I was hoping that we could get everything on that list."

Briggs continued. "Also sir, we aren't the only ones. Other places are also having trouble finding certain things for Frontier Day."

Tillas sighed again. "I figured much. That's how it goes with these events. Especially when we run the Fleet Museum and certain ship components are out of date, or really anything. Tillas trailed off when one of the missing components on the list caught his eye. "I know that device. Must not be many of them anymore" he shook his head as he muttered.

He looked back at the Lieutenant. "Do you have anything else for me Mister Briggs?"

Roland shook his head. "Not at the moment sir, if I can find a way to get those missing components I'll notify you or the Commodore."

"Thank you Lieutenant" the Commander smiled as he watched the Lieutenant turn on his heel and leave.

Commander Tillas continued walking down the corridor before entering the turbolift to the command levels of the station.

A few minutes later, Commander Tillas found himself in front of Commodore La Forge's office. He often wondered how he found himself working for a Starfleet legend, even if it was just temporary. But he had a job to do. There would be time to reminisce about legends later. He tapped the door chime.

"Enter" a calm voice called out.

Rex entered the office and approached the desk of a Commodore wearing an operations yellow uniform. This officer was non other than Geordi La Forge, the Fleet Museum's Curator.

The Commodore stood behind the desk, facing away at the stars behind the transparent aluminum window.

"I have the status reports and the requisition reports you asked for sir" Tillas reported.

Commodore La Forge turned and approached the desk, accepted the PADD's Rex had given him. After a few moments of skimming through everything, Geordi looked up at Commander Tillas. "Lieutenant Brigg's team wasn't able to acquire everything?"

"No sir, they weren't. According to the Lieutenant and the report, there were some items on that list that require unconventional means of being acquired. According to him, said means may need your approval" Tillas reported. "In addition, the Lieutenant is searching for other ways to acquire the remaining components."

The Commodore sighed and set the status reports on his desk. "That's what I was afraid of. Not to mention, those are the components we need the most. If only Starfleet would be more helpful with these preparations for their own Frontier Day" Geordi vented.

"Sir?"

Geordi sighed, "I'm sorry Rex. Starfleet hasn't exactly been as helpful as I would have liked. They keep-" the Commodore was interrupted by the chirping of his badge.

=/\= Lieutenant Briggs to Commodore La Forge =/\=

The flag officer tapped his badge. =/\= La Forge here =/\=

=/\= I have an update regarding the artifacts that we couldn't obtain. I have found where we can get them. Sending the information to you and Commander Tillas now sir=/\= Briggs reported over the comm.

=/\=Very well, thank you Lieutenant. La Forge out =/\= Geordi closed the channel and looked at his PADD which started showing the information the Lieutenant. "Rex come look at this."

The XO hunched over the Commodores desk and read the information. "I believe the USS Eminence is available. She's currently at Starbase 295."

Geordi looked at the XO. But before he could say anything his computer beeped. "Looks like Command is contacting me, can you get the Eminence to look into this?"

"Aye sir, but if I may should we contact command?"

"Normally yes, but they are busy with Frontier Day prep as are we, and to be honest they haven't been reliable. We need these components soon. Captain Shepard is reliable. And I am a flag officer, so I do have the authority to send orders to the Eminence" Geordi said in a humble manner.

Rex smiled. "Aye sir, I'll contact them right away."

[USS Eminence]

The dark glow of Starbase 295's main hangar bay flooded the corridors of the USS Eminence, which was on station power. The Saber class vessel was due to depart in a few short days yet the crew currently didn't have any new orders.

Captain Alex Shepard, who was currently walking through the corridor to her ready room, figured she'd request for patrol duty if they weren't issued orders in order to get the ship out of dock on time. However she would find out shortly that this would not be the case. As she was walking she heard footsteps behind her. She stopped to turn and noticed her XO, who was quickly approaching her.

"Mornin' Captain!" Mei greeted cheerfully.

"Good morning number one" Alex said in a happy tone. "How's it going?"

"Not too bad Captain," Mei replied with a smile. She held out a PADD to Alex. "It seems that Command are sending us new orders." She explained.

Alex raised an eyebrow, before accepting the PADD. "Hmm let's see" she began reading the report through before holding it to her side. "Care to walk with me Commander?" Alex asked. The PADD was orders to obtain items on a list that could not be found by conventional means. This was something that needed to be discussed in private.

"Sure, what's on your mind?" Mri asked as she followed along. "And don't give me the whole 'nothing' routine. I can see right through you."

The Captain chuckled and handed her number one the PADD as the two walked down the corridor. "Frontier Day. We've received orders Commodore La Forge to track down a list of objects that the Fleet Museum requires. Normally this would be a job for the Commodore's staff, however they can't be obtained through conventional means. Not only that but most of those objects have been out of service for decades."

"Old tech." Mei smirked. "How old we talking here? Older than yours truly?"

Alex chuckled. "Perhaps. I still need to do a thorough look of that list but some of it may be as old as the NX-01 at most since that's moored there. Others are older versions of tech that went obsolete only a few years ago."

"Those were the days..." Mei smiled. "So then, what's on this list of yours? I can probably remember when it was considered state of the art," she chuckled.

She handed her back the PADD as they continued walking. "The one listed at the top is our priority. You will also see that this is the only item that doesn't have an official purpose for why the museum needs it. All it says is that it's for Hangar Bay 12" Shepard mused as they approached her ready room and entered.

Alex took a seat at her desk. "Now the sensitive part. The museum did locate one. However it's in Klingon space, which isn't ideal but given we're still allies it should work out fine. The good news is that Commodore La Forge is working on getting us clearance. The bad news is that the sector it's appears to be more unstable according to intelligence. In addition we don't have exact coordinates to the device."

The Device

"Oh its that thing." Mei smiled. "I'm sure we'll be able to get it easily enough." She told her. "If it's outdated, it should be easy to trade for atba good price. We might even get it cheap."

"If we can manage to negotiate. It's the Klingons we're talking about" she chuckled. "Finding the exact location is a hurdle, but one of command's concerns is also how unstable the region is. Reports date back a few months but according to intelligence there are some rogue houses in that region. The KDF doesn't operate in the sector often so we may be alone. Hence why the Eminence is being sent."

"I have plenty if experience with Klingons. So rely on me to negotiate with them. Afterall, I've commanded ships in battle against them. Trust me, this'll be a piece of cake!" Mei assured her.

"And that's why you're my first officer" Alex chuckled before continuing. "We won't depart until we're given clearance to Klingon space. When we get the clearance we'll also get further details on the other two, so I'd like a staff meeting once we're underway. Any questions?"

"Nope. I get the jist of it." Mei grinned. "Sounds like fun."

"That it does" she returned Mei's expression. "If you've got nothing else then you're free to go."

"I guess I'll go dome some more 'first officer' stuff then," Mei told her happily. "I'll see you later cap!" She turned down an adjoining corridor and was soon whisked off around a corner.

She watched her XO leave and smiled before leaning back in her chair. She stared at the pile of PADDs she had on her desk. There was a lot to be done.
